HONORING Depelsha McGruder upon the occasion of
her designation as a Neighborhood Leader by the
Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic on June 9,
2020
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
the best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration
and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Depelsha McGruder has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Depelsha
McGruder upon the occasion of her designation as a Neighborhood Leader
by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic to be celebrated at its
13th Annual Gala, A Salute to New York City's Nonprofits and the
Neighborhoods They Serve, on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Giando on the
Water, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC) is a
strategic partner and advisor to philanthropists, foundations,
government and political entities, public institutions, grassroots
nonprofit organizations, and faith-based institutions wishing to improve
their programs and organizational effectiveness in addressing the needs
of low-income and service-starved communities; and
WHEREAS, Depelsha McGruder founded Moms of Black Boys United and
M.O.B.B. United for Social Change; what began as a Facebook group has
grown into two non-profit organizations with more than 170,000 members
working together to change policies and perceptions impacting Black boys
and men; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Depelsha McGruder is a
member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Links, Inc. and Jack & Jill of
America; she also serves on the Board of the Bedford Stuyvesant
Restoration Corporation and The Billie Holiday Theatre; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, this extraordinary woman was selected for The
Network Journal's 40 Under Forty Achievers Award, and in 2018, she was
selected as a Forward Promise Fellow by the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation for her work healing trauma in boys and young men of color;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband and two sons, all
of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Depelsha McGruder has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Depelsha McGruder upon the occasion of her designation as a
Neighborhood Leader by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Depelsha McGruder.
