Senate Resolution No. 3110

MOURNING the death of Deric Lybrand McCants,
longtime New York City transit worker, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework served to enhance the
quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York;
and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to mourn the death of Deric
Lybrand McCants, who died on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the age of 55;
and

WHEREAS, Deric Lybrand McCants was born to Geraline and the late
George L. McCants on November 14, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York, where he
attended South Shore High School; after graduating in 1982, he attended
New York City Technical College; and

WHEREAS, Known as a hard worker, Deric Lybrand McCants held a
variety of jobs including dee jay, butcher, and shipping clerk with his
father; for 26 years, he held the position of track worker for the New
York City Transit Authority, the title from which he officially retired
in December of 2019; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his long and esteemed career, Deric Lybrand
McCants truly distinguished himself in his profession and by his sincere
dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his community;
and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, George L. McCants; six uncles,
Joseph Prude Sr., Kenneth Dinkins, Clarence Hill, Sampson Prude, Edward
Croskey, and Johnny Newton; three aunts, Rubye Croskey, Rena Dinkins,
and Joanne Hill; three cousins, Dianne Melton, Lorna Prude, and Joseph
Prude Jr.; and one nephew, David McCants, Deric Lybrand McCants is
survived by his mother, Geraline McCants; one sister, Angela McCants;
one stepdaughter, Alexis Albright; one great niece Jayla Bien-Aime'
McCants; one great nephew, Jayden A. McCants; and two aunts, Ella Mae
Melton and Aunt Elizabeth Newton, as well as numerous cousins,
godchildren and friends who will long cherish his memory; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Deric Lybrand McCants leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Deric Lybrand McCants, longtime New York City transit
worker, distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Deric Lybrand McCants.
