MOURNING the death of Mary Joan Kanzler, pillar
for her church, distinguished citizen and dedicated
member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework served to enhance the
quality of life in their communities and the great State of New York;
and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to mourn the death of Mary
Joan Kanzler, who died on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the age of 58;
and

WHEREAS, Mary Joan Kanzler was born on April 15, 1962, to the late
James E. and Joan Moran Kanzler in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, For many years, Mary Joan Kanzler worked as an Admissions
Recruiter for the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania, which was also
her alma mater; and

WHEREAS, Mary Joan Kanzler was a faithful and active member of
Sacred Heart Church in Monroe, New York, serving in various capacities
such as Eucharistic Minister and a religious education teacher; in these
roles, she truly inspired many to follow in her footsteps; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by her brother, James Kanzler, Mary Joan
Kanzler is survived by her two brothers, Thomas (Susanna) Kanzler and
Peter (Barbara) Kanzler; one sister-in-law, Lisa Kanzler; and one nephew
and several nieces, as well as numerous friends and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Mary Joan Kanzler leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Mary Joan Kanzler, pillar in her church,
distinguished citizen and dedicated member of her community; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Mary Joan Kanzler.
