MOURNING the death of Joel L. Schnur,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Joel L. Schnur was one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Joel L. Schnur, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Senior Vice President of Schnur Associates, Inc., Joel L.
Schnur of Brooklyn, New York, died on Wednesday, April 15, 2020; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1948 to Milton and Ray Schnur, Joel grew up in the
Bronx and went on to attend Yeshiva University; and
WHEREAS, Joel L. Schnur distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious career in government and
politics which traversed more than three decades, Joel L. Schnur was the
consummate professional; he joined the firm Schnur Associates, Inc. in
1998, after a decade as Deputy Director for the American Israel Public
Affairs Committee (AIPAC); and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Joel L. Schnur coordinated a network of
key community leaders to lobby members of Congress, monitored nationwide
Senate and House elections, served as liaison to federal, state and
local officials, and oversaw fundraising and programming for major AIPAC
contributors; and
WHEREAS, Prior to that, this extraordinary man served as a senior
housing official in the three Koch Administrations and was on the
campaign staffs of presidential, senatorial and municipal candidates; he
also successfully secured government and foundation grants for national
and local not-for-profit service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Joel L. Schnur's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A registered lobbyist in New York City and New York State,
Joel L. Schnur served as a confidante to both elected officials and
their staff, truly earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Joel L. Schnur is survived by his wife, Zeesy Schnur; three
children, Mordechai Schnur, Danielle Schnur and Ethan Schnur; and nine
grandchildren; as well as two siblings, Binah Pam and David Schnur; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joel L. Schnur leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Joel L. Schnur, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Joel L. Schnur.
