MOURNING the death of Walter Simpson,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Walter Simpson was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Walter Simpson, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Walter Simpson was born on September 9, 1970, to Gertrude
B. Simpson and Arnold Evans in Brooklyn, New York; he spent his
academic career in the New York Public School System, graduating from
Canarsie High School in 1988, and later attending Kingsborough Community
College; and

WHEREAS, As a youth, Walter Simpson grew up serving with his family
at New Mount Carmel Church of God in Christ where he was a lead soloist
in the youth choir, The Junior Builders; he truly loved fellowship and
always kept everyone bursting with laughter, going the extra mile with
his comedic performances and impersonations; and

WHEREAS, If the true mark of a man is the way he loved his mother,
then Walter Simpson was the perfect man; and

WHEREAS, Walter Simpson happily spent his illustrious 23-year career
as a Customer Service Sales Representative for Verizon at its Flatbush
Avenue extension in Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man was also a dedicated flag football
player and accomplished baker; he would often place his famous homemade
brownies and chocolate chip cookies on his desk for his office mates to
enjoy; and

WHEREAS, A bridge to many friendships, Walter Simpson hosted the
best sports parties, entertaining his family, teammates, coworkers and
church family; regardless of which team anyone was rooting for, there
was always love and laughter in his living room; and

WHEREAS, Walter Simpson truly loved the Lord and he was a faithful
and supportive member of Word for Life Christian Center where his very
close friend, Lawrence Saunders is the Senior Pastor; he was also a
committed member of Christian Cultural Center under the leadership of
Dr. A.R. Bernard in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, Preceding him in death was his eldest sibling, Rose Martin;
Walter Simpson is survived by his mother, Gertrude; a brother, Ardell;
brother-in-law, Evans; his nieces and nephews who were all so grateful
and honored to call him "Uncle"; his significant love of 12 years,

Maxine, along with her children; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins
and friends; and

WHEREAS, Walter Simpson, who displayed many exceptional talents and
unique qualities, lived an immensely beautiful life built on compassion,
kindness, and respect for others; and

WHEREAS, Through his profound words of wisdom, Walter Simpson's
legacy of infinite selflessness, faith and benevolence, will shine on
through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and strength
will forever serve as a beacon of love and hope for all who were
privileged to have known and loved such an amazing person; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Walter Simpson, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Walter Simpson.
