COMMENDING Armand J. Marion posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by Albany County at its Honor A Veteran Ceremony on
December 3, 2018
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Armand J.
Marion posthumously upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Albany County at its Honor A Veteran Ceremony on Monday,
December 3, 2018, at the American Legion Joseph E. Zaloga Post No. 1520,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1993, a committee was formed by the Albany
County Veterans Bureau, known as the Albany County Honor A Veteran
Committee, created to honor a deceased Albany County veteran who served
his country in time of conflict; the Honor A Veteran Program takes place
on the first Monday of each month; and
WHEREAS, For his courageous and dedicated service to his country,
Armand J. Marion will be recognized posthumously at this year's December
Honor A Veteran Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Armand J. Marion was born on December 2, 1918, in St.
Mathieu De La Prairie, Quebec, Canada; and
WHEREAS, On September 3, 1943, Armand J. Marion enlisted in the
United States Navy, proudly serving his country as a MM1 aboard the USS
Barr during World War II in both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific
Ocean; and
WHEREAS, For his bravery, Armand J. Marion was awarded the American
Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Bar with 3 bronze stars, the
European-African Bar with 1 bronze star, and the World War II Victory
Medal; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service on December 12,
1945, Armand J. Marion returned to the Capital District where he worked
for 40 years at the General Electric Company as a machinist in the
Industrial Control Division, and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory as a
toolmaker with Q level clearance; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community, Armand J. Marion was the Assistant
Leader and Treasurer of Boy Scouts of America Troop 70; for his time and
energies, he received the Order of the Arrow Award and the St. George
Award; he was also a neighborhood representative for the Town of
Colonie, and a regular fixture at town planning board meetings; and
WHEREAS, The husband of Lucille Marion, Armand J. Marion died on
October 23, 2015, in Latham, New York, at the age of 96; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Armand J. Marion demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their
Country; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Armand J. Marion posthumously upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by Albany County at its Honor A
Veteran Ceremony on December 3, 2018; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Armand J. Marion.
