CONGRATULATING Shane K. Sanford upon the occasion
of his retirement after 35 years of dedicated
service to the Thousand Island Bridge Authority

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Shane K. Sanford upon the occasion of his retirement after
35 years of dedicated service to the Thousand Island Bridge Authority;
and

WHEREAS, A native of Alexandria Bay, New York, Shane K. Sanford
began his illustrious career with the Thousand Island Bridge Authority
as an operations manager in 1984; four years later he was tasked with
his first large project on Heart Island, restoring the powerhouse which
was severely damaged during a fire in 1939; and

WHEREAS, Shane K. Sanford was promoted to Director of Boldt
Facilities, Operations and Maintenance in 2010; in this capacity he was
responsible for overseeing Boldt Castle, a major landmark and tourist
attraction in the Thousand Islands region; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure with the Thousand Island Bridge
Authority, Shane K. Sanford was instrumental in the success of countless
projects, including the restoration of the Boldt Yacht House on
Wellesley Island, and the renovation of the first floor of the
property's Alster Tower; and

WHEREAS, In addition, he oversaw the annual rehabilitation of Boldt
Castle, and was responsible for wedding services held on the property;
and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Shane K. Sanford, Boldt Castle
and Boldt Yacht House have seen significant growth, welcoming more than
6.5 million visitors and hosting more than 1,000 weddings; he also
played a vital role in these two landmarks attracting more than 215,000
visitors in 2018 alone; and

WHEREAS, Upon his retirement, Shane K. Sanford will remain involved
in the legacy of the Boldt Family by assisting the Northern New York
Community Foundation with administering the George C. Boldt Scholarship
to its first recipients in 2019; and

WHEREAS, Shane K. Sanford is a shining example of the impact a
person can have on the betterment of his community; through his tireless
dedication to the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority, Boldt Castle and
its related facilities, this extraordinary man has made a tremendous
impact on the North Country; and

WHEREAS, For more than three decades, Shane K. Sanford rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Thousand Island
Bridge Authority, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Shane K. Sanford upon the occasion of his retirement after
35 years of dedicated service to the Thousand Island Bridge Authority;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shane K. Sanford.
