HONORING Didier Drogba upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by FACE Africa
at its 10th Annual WASH Gala on March 23, 2019

WHEREAS, The unity of our State and Nation is built upon the
compassion of individuals such as Didier Drogba who uphold the values of
community life and who, through their great actions, epitomize the best
of humanity; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Didier
Drogba upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
FACE Africa at its 10th Annual WASH Gala on Saturday, March 23, 2019, in
New York City; and

WHEREAS, Called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless
civic and charitable endeavors, Didier Drogba has always given of
himself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, Didier Drogba is an Ivorian retired professional footballer
who played as a striker; he is the all-time top scorer and former
captain of the Ivory Coast national team; and

WHEREAS, Best known for his career at Chelsea Football Club, Didier
Drogba has scored more goals than any other foreign player and is
currently the club's fourth highest goal scorer of all time; he was
named African Footballer of the Year twice, winning the accolade in 2006
and 2009; and

WHEREAS, President of the Didier Drogba Foundation, this
extraordinary man launched the foundation in 2009, with a mission to
facilitate health and education access for vulnerable populations; and

WHEREAS, Didier Drogba is a United Nations Development Programme
(UNDP) Goodwill Ambassador and is credited with playing a vital role in
bringing peace to his country, leading to Time magazine naming him one
of the world's 100 most influential people in 2010; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Didier Drogba has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Didier Drogba has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Didier Drogba, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Didier Drogba upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by FACE Africa at its 10th Annual WASH Gala on March 23,
2019; and it be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Didier Drogba.
