HONORING Clare Murray upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition at the 3rd
Annual Women's History Month Celebration on March
23, 2019

WHEREAS, Women's History Month, celebrated each year in March, is a
time to reflect upon and pay tribute to the women of our State and
Nation for their contributions to their communities and their
professions; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that women of
every economic, ethnic, and religious background have made significant
contributions to their community and to the State of New York, and it is
appropriate to recognize them and to publicly acknowledge their
endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among us all; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Clare Murray upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition at the 3rd Annual Women's History Month Celebration on
Saturday, March 23, 2019, at The Rye Arts Center, Rye, New York; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Bedford Hills, New York, Clare Murray has
truly devoted herself to the welfare of her community and its citizenry;
and

WHEREAS, Clare Murray is the Executive Director of the Community
Center of Northern Westchester; she has held this esteemed position
since 2016, prior to which she served as the organization's Assistant
Director for Operations; and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Clare Murray, the Community
Center of Northern Westchester offers vital services to families and
individuals struggling within the local community; and

WHEREAS, Providing support to 2,000 families annually with food and
clothing, as well as programs to develop job skills and enhance
education, Clare Murray strives to improve economic stability for all
who seek help; and

WHEREAS, Leading a team of five employees and over 500 volunteers,
Clare Murray brings the community together by engaging the support of
individuals, local businesses, and organizations to solve problems in a
highly effective way; and

WHEREAS, Clare Murray was born and raised on the south coast of
England and trained as a Physical Therapist at the Bath School of
Physiotherapy, graduating in 1984; two years later, she moved to
Toronto, Canada, where she practiced as a physical therapist in a
variety of settings, including St. Michael's Hospital, The Salvation
Army Grace Hospital and the Toronto CCAC; and

WHEREAS, In addition, she lectured at the University of Toronto as a
Clinical Instructor, affording her the opportunity to share her
experience and her passion in human services; and

WHEREAS, Upon moving to the United States in 2001, Clare Murray
managed a retail and wholesale clothing import business to support women
artisans in South America; and

WHEREAS, Clare Murray is the proud recipient of numerous awards and
accolades, including her designation as a 2017 Paul Harris Fellow by
North East Westchester Rotary Club for her substantial contributions to
the local community; she was also recognized in 2018, as one of The
Bedford 25 most dedicated, creative and influential neighbors; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband and two
daughters, who have all shown her love and support and rejoice in her
many achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Clare Murray has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned our
recognition and applause; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Clare Murray upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition at the 3rd Annual Women's History Month Celebration on March
23, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Clare Murray.
