COMMENDING The New York Urban League upon the
occasion of hosting its 16th Annual Champions of
Diversity Awards Breakfast, and paying tribute to
this year's honorees

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend The New York Urban League upon the occasion of hosting its 16th
Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Breakfast, and to pay tribute to
this year's honorees, celebrated on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, The Plaza,
Grand Ballroom, New York City; and

WHEREAS, The New York Urban League recognizes companies and
respected leaders who have exemplary diversity practices in the areas of
leadership, hiring and promotion, supplier relations and philanthropy at
its 16th Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Breakfast; and

WHEREAS, The Champions of Diversity Award was inspired by the
outpouring of corporate and business support for the June 2003 Supreme
Court decision upholding the basic tenets of affirmative action; and

WHEREAS, Shortly following the Supreme Court's decision, and
recognizing the importance of this decision, The New York Urban League
resolved to salute corporations and/or individuals who have made a
strong commitment to diversity and truly embody the outstanding
corporate citizenry, hiring, supplier relations, and philanthropic
practices that characterize a successful and powerful organization; and

WHEREAS, The 2019 distinguished honorees include: Gary Pinkus,
Chairman, North America McKinsey & Company; Tim Ryan, US Chairman and
Senior Partner PwC; and UPS; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished history, The New York Urban League
has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities
which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of The New York Urban League is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its dedicated members, whose involvement
is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to The New York Urban
League; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The New York Urban League upon the occasion of hosting its 16th
Annual Champions of Diversity Awards Breakfast, and to pay tribute to
this year's honorees; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The New York Urban League and the aforementioned
honorees.
