COMMENDING the Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic
Leadership Council of New York upon the occasion of
celebrating its 30th Anniversary on February 10,
2019

WHEREAS, Religious organizations, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Majlis
Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership Council of New York upon the occasion of
its 30th Anniversary to be celebrated at a Banquet on Sunday, February
10, 2019, at Grand Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion, full of inspiration, appreciation
and reflection, will give New York City's Muslim community the
opportunity to reflect upon this year's theme, "Celebrating our Legacy,"
through an exciting line up of speakers: esteemed Islamic scholars, Imam
Omar Suleiman and Dr. Yasir Qadhi; immigration lawyer, Khalila Sabra;
and renowned spiritual leader, Imam Talib Abdur-Rashid; and

WHEREAS, For three decades, Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership
Council of New York has strived to serve the Muslim community's needs as
it works toward a just and prosperous future; and

WHEREAS, Founded in February of 1989, Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic
Leadership Council of New York was established to provide a uniform
voice on matters which concern the Muslim community; as an umbrella of
over 90 mosques and organizations, the Council serves as the official
representative of its members with the media, organizations, advocacy
groups, political candidates, and government institutions; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership Council
of New York advises and consults with its members on various key issues
built on Islamic values, and the physical, social, and spiritual
development of local communities; and

WHEREAS, As an organization which emphasizes working closely with
the Muslim community on the grassroots level, Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic
Leadership Council of New York recognizes the importance of having a
diverse membership to adequately represent the entire community's
interests; its members preside over communities and are led by people
from all walks of life, men, women, imams, advocates and people of
various ethnic and racial backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious organizations and to bring such organizations to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership Council of New York
upon the occasion of celebrating its 30th Anniversary on February 10,
2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Majilis Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership Council of New
York.
