CONGRATULATING the Town of Amherst, New York, upon
the occasion of being named the best place to live
in New York by Money magazine

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate those distinguished communities which comprise the noble
body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, The United States is filled with incredible towns, each
with its own set of credentials and clout to attract visitors from
around the world; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Town of Amherst, New York, upon the occasion of being named the best
place to live in New York by Money magazine; and

WHEREAS, Each year, Money magazine compiles lists of the 50 best
places to live in the United States, however, this year, the magazine
decided to create a list which would include one location from every
state in the Nation; and

WHEREAS, Of the 50 communities with populations of 50,000 or more
ranked for quality-of-life in the United States, the Town of Amherst was
rated number one; in addition to this prestigious honor, the Town was at
the top of the list of safest cities in America in the 1990s and 2000s;
and

WHEREAS, The highest scores went to well-rounded communities, with
low crime rates, high median household incomes and ethnic diversity,
educational levels, cost of living, the local economy, housing,
amenities, commute times and other factors; and

WHEREAS, Created by the State of New York on April 10, 1818, the
Town of Amherst is located in Erie County; it is the most populated town
in upstate New York, and an inner ring suburb of Buffalo; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Amherst has a population of 126,096, median
household income of $74,631, and median list price for a home is
$270,000; and

WHEREAS, Called a "hub for students" with "plenty of history,"
Amherst is comprised of several colleges including the University of
Buffalo, Daemen College, Erie Community College's North Campus, and
Bryant and Stratton College; it is close to both the city of Buffalo and
Canada, and is the home to many historical venues such as Veterans
Memorial at Amherst State Park and the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village,
a 3.5-acre open air museum known for its collection of objects which
trace back before the Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Supervisor Brian Kulpa,
the residents of the Town of Amherst have a bright outlook for the
future of their community, which remains a beautiful place in which to
live and raise a family; and


WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the Town of Amherst continues its commitment to
enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive
business, institutional and educational climate, and providing all
essential services; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Town of Amherst, New York, upon the occasion of being
named the best place to live in New York by Money magazine, and to
enthusiastically salute its residents as they celebrate this auspicious
occasion; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Brian Kulpa, Supervisor, Town of Amherst.
