HONORING the Batavia Rotary Club upon the occasion
of its designation as recipient of the 2018 Special
Service Recognition Award by the Genesee County
Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business
organizations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the Batavia Rotary Club upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2018 Special Service Recognition Award by the Genesee
County Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at its 46th Annual Awards
Ceremony on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the Quality Inn & Suites in
Batavia, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Batavia Rotary Club is receiving this auspicious award
for its demonstrated growth and commitment to Genesee County; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception 100 years ago, the Rotary Club of
Batavia has been an integral part of the local community; founded by
local businessmen looking for camaraderie and an opportunity to give
back, the Club has made countless meaningful contributions to make
Batavia a better place to live and work; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to its
community, the Batavia Rotary Club supports the Batavia Concert Band,
Genesee County Youth Bureau Community Garden, Genesee Cancer Assistance,
Crossroads House, Genesee Symphony Orchestra, Go Art, Picnic in the
Park, Genesee/Orleans ARC and United Memorial Medical Center, to name a
few; and

WHEREAS, This vital organization has also given of its time and
energies to local youth organizations, including ice hockey, minor
league baseball, Boy Scouts, CASA, YMCA Camp Hough and YWCA Summer
Adventure Program; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Rotary Scholarship program provides
$18,000 each year to deserving high school students from Batavia, Notre
Dame and the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership; and

WHEREAS, With 75 current members, the Batavia Rotary Club also
supports Rotary International in its quest to eradicate polio; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to its community, the Batavia Rotary Club
hosts numerous annual events, some of which include Rotary Shows, the
Girls High School Basketball Tournament, Boys High School Baseball
Tournament, Father's Day Fly in Breakfast, Beerfest and Raffle, as well
as the Memorial Day Flags and Flowers sale; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 100-year history, the Batavia Rotary
Club has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and
communities which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Batavia Rotary Club is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all
endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Batavia Rotary
Club; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Batavia Rotary Club upon the occasion of its designation as
recipient of the 2018 Special Service Recognition Award by the Genesee
County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Batavia Rotary Club.
