HONORING Elizabeth Miller upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the J. Walter Juckett
Community Service Award by the Adirondack Regional
Chamber of Commerce on March 9, 2019
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elizabeth
Miller upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the J.
Walter Juckett Community Service Award by the Adirondack Regional
Chamber of Commerce to be celebrated at its 30th Annual Event at the
Sagamore Resort on Saturday, March 9, 2019, in Bolton Landing, New York;
and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is named after the late J. Walter
Juckett, who was a tremendous force in his community; Elizabeth Miller
is truly deserving of this recognition; and
WHEREAS, After earning her Master of Science degree in Communication
Sciences and Disorders at the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York,
Elizabeth Miller enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a
speech-language pathologist (SLP) for the Saratoga Springs City Schools,
the position from which she officially retired after three decades of
service; and
WHEREAS, Upon the death of her husband Miles in 2007, Elizabeth
Miller decided to take over his metal-fabrication company, Miller
Mechanical Services, Inc.; even though she had very little business
experience, she courageously took the helm, and with the help of her
skilled management team, found a great deal of success; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of Elizabeth Miller, Miller
Mechanical Services, Inc. continued to prosper; on the leading edge of
technology, she introduced a waterjet cutting machine to the company
which gave it a strategic advantage which allowed the company to handle
many new materials, including wood, foam, and even granite, and enabled
employees to better prepare metal parts for welding; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Miller then expanded the company by adding a
second waterjet; three years ago, she purchased a machine shop, Doty
Machine Works; and
WHEREAS, In 2014, Elizabeth Miller purchased and began renovating
the historic 1911 Glens Falls Park Theater; after four years of hard
work, heart and soul, the Theater was transformed into a state of the
art performing space with Doc's Restaurant downstairs; and
WHEREAS, Even though Elizabeth Miller is thriving as the owner of
Miller Mechanical Services, Inc. and its sister company Doty Machine
Works, she remains true to her roots as an educator who has always
enjoyed working with young people; currently, her companies employ
bright BOCES interns who reap the benefits of working with such
dedicated professionals; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Elizabeth Miller is a vital member of numerous
boards of directors of local schools and donates her time and energy to
many worthy civic organizations; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others, which Elizabeth Miller has
displayed throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elizabeth Miller upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the J. Walter Juckett Community Service Award by the Adirondack
Regional Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elizabeth Miller.
