CONGRATULATING the Poland High School Girls Soccer
Team and Head Coach Tom Basel upon the occasion of
winning the New York State Class D Girls Soccer
Championship

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Poland High School Girls Soccer Team and Head Coach Tom Basel upon the
occasion of capturing the New York State Class D Girls Soccer
Championship on Sunday, November 17, 2019, in Cortland, New York; and

WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the
Tornadoes were able to surmount their opponents in the New York State
Championship Match and accomplish the utmost high school sporting
accomplishment in this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, The Poland High School Girls Soccer Team ended a very
successful season finishing a perfect 23-0 and capped their historic
season off with a 6-1 triumphant victory over Section 6 Champion Avoca
to secure the Class D New York State Girls Soccer Championship; and

WHEREAS, These are not uncharted waters for the Poland High School
Girls Soccer Program and Head Coach Tom Basel, who has now won two New
York State Championships and obtained a record of 41-0-1 over the course
of the past two seasons; and

WHEREAS, The Poland High School Girls Soccer Team are not only
champions on the pitch, but off it as well; just before the team's final
match, its members helped clean up their community which was hit by
devastating floods and heavy winds leaving more than 241,000 homes
without power; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as soccer, which demands athletic prowess,
speed and agility, and mental toughness, Head Coach Tom Basel and his
expert coaching staff worked hard to hone the skills of this
championship team, teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which
will prove invaluable both on and off the pitch; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Basel and all the outstanding athletes on the
Poland High School Girls Soccer Team have clearly utilized dedication,
determination and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now,
therefore, be it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Poland High School Girls Soccer Team:
Emily Schrader, Carliza Roark, Riley Wisheart, Sara Borner, Erin Powers,
Rickelle Wright, Alexis Bates, Brooke Humiston, Jordyn Squire, Victoria
Rommel, Madison Altamura, Logan Cookinham, Leah Basel, Shelbi Hagues,
Amanda Sweet, Ava Malin, Jessica Batson, Grace Braunlich, Bailey Dunn,
Jadyn Lowe; and Head Coach Tom Basel on their extraordinary season; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Poland High School Girls Soccer Team
and Head Coach Tom Basel.
