Senate Resolution No. 1020

HONORING The Reverend Trevor Hyde, Jr. upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Ecumenical Leadership Award by the Community Council
for Medgar Evers College, Inc. on April 27, 2019

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish
themselves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and
preeminence of service; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
The Reverend Trevor Hyde, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Ecumenical Leadership Award by the Community Council
for Medgar Evers College, Inc. to be celebrated at its Annual Spring
Scholarship and Leadership Awards Luncheon on Saturday, April 27, 2019;
and

WHEREAS, In the late 1960s, a diverse group of residents, clergy and
elected officials formed the Community Council to provide access to a
quality college education for students living in central Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, Medgar Evers College was established in 1970, by the
Community Council, along with New York City University in honor of Civil
Rights leader Medgar W. Evers, who recruited black residents to register
and vote; and

WHEREAS, Trevor Hyde, Jr. earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in
business administration from Metropolitan College of New York and Master
of Divinity degree from New York Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Reverend Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. is the Pastor of
the historic Berean Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York; in this
capacity, he serves as an administrator, teacher, preacher and business
manager who strategically plans and executes a path to successful
ministry in the 21st Century; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. also oversees various church
operations such as supervision of staff, management of all ministry
servant leaders, planning all special worship services and programs,
oversight of the church's operational budget, management of IT services
and community engagement; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Reverend Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. serves as a
liaison between the Church and its subsidiaries including Berea Credit
Union, Berean Community & Family Life Center, Berean Gardens Senior
Housing and Berean Housing Development Fund Corporation; and

WHEREAS, Under his luminous leadership, the Berean Baptist Church
has revitalized its Christian Education Ministry, implemented new
worship services to meet the needs of its congregation, held a Women's
Season kick-off celebration to create a platform for millennial
preachers to share their gifts, and developed the Arts on a Mission
ministry; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his transition to full-time ministry, Reverend
Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. worked in the banking industry for 15 years;
throughout his tenure, he diligently worked to bring quality financial
literacy programs back to his community; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, Reverend Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. initiated a
partnership with the neighborhood elementary school to teach children
the basics of financial literacy, and in 2017, he launched "Financial
Grub and Grow" a quarterly financial literacy initiative for church
members teaching them principles of budgeting, investing, saving, and
estate planning; this year, he launched the Dfree Initiative as part of
the Christian education course, Faith and Finance; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. is also active in Lott Carey
Missions, having just completed a missions trip to Jamaica, and is a
participant in the American Baptist Home Missions Society, Community of
Practice Networks Initiative; and

WHEREAS, A truly charismatic man, Reverend Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. has
preached at Rikers Island Correctional facility for two years, and was
awarded a scholarship to participate in the Academy of Preachers 2019 in
Atlanta, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his various church ministries, Reverend
Trevor A. Hyde, Jr. serves on the Board of Directors of the Berean
Housing, Berean Community and Family Life Center, and Young Harlem,
Inc.; he was recently appointed to the Advisory Board of Gold Coast
Bank, and serves as a program consultant for Life Support Inc.; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Aleshia, and their
two children, Mykah and Amaya, all of whom have shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, This distinguished man of God has always given
enlightenment, guidance and wisdom to the many entrusted to his care and
has administered abundantly and unstintingly to the spiritual and
corporal needs of all; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention it is
appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor The Reverend Trevor Hyde, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Ecumenical Leadership Award by the Community Council
for Medgar Evers College, Inc. on April 27, 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Reverend Trevor Hyde, Jr.
