Senate Resolution No. 1321

MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
May 4, 2019, as I Love My Park Day in the State of
New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to increase public
awareness and appreciation of New York's many state and local parks as
well as to encourage individuals across various communities to come
together and help preserve, protect, clean, and care for these public
lands and historic sites; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 4, 2019, as I Love
My Park Day in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, In 2018, through the commitment of volunteers led in many
instances by local Parks Friends Groups, more than 800 bags of waste
were removed from numerous landmarks and parks across the state, almost
820 trees were planted, approximately 26 miles of shorelines were
cleaned and maintained, and more than 200 gardens were created and
enhanced; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body establishes that it is critically
important to share in the task of improving our natural resources and
open spaces, and to ensure that our state and community parks are well
cared for and our historic sites preserved to stand for many generations
to come; and
WHEREAS, Commemorating New York's eighth annual "I Love My Park Day"
demonstrates the meaningful impact people can have through volunteerism
while reconnecting with the natural environment and sites of cultural
and historic significance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim Saturday, May 4, 2019,
as I Love My Park Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
