CONGRATULATING John Amoriell upon the occasion of
celebrating his 108th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate John Amoriell upon the occasion of his 108th Birthday,
celebrated with a party in his honor on Monday, January 6, 2020, at
Mercy Living Center, Tupper Lake, New York; and

WHEREAS, John Amoriell was born on December 31, 1911, to Sam and
Mary (Maglione) Amoriell; he and his six brothers and sisters grew up in
a four-house tenement on Washington Street in Tupper Lake, New York; and

WHEREAS, A shoe shiner at the age of 10 years old, John Amoriell
later worked at the Oval Wood Dish Company for 15 cents an hour to pay
his rent which was only 12 dollars a month; and

WHEREAS, In 1936, at the age of 19, John Amoriell followed in his
father's footsteps and started working for the railroad; he began with
the New York Central Railroad and finished his career with Conrail in
1969; and

WHEREAS, In 1937, John Amoriell married the former Mildred Exware,
and together the couple raised two children, Sam and Annette; in 2010,
the love of his life passed away at the age of 91; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, John Amoriell cooked at the
Winter Playhouse, a shelter built by the federal Public Works
Administration as part of then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New
Deal program; and

WHEREAS, John Amoriell, with his zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, John Amoriell attributes his long life to maintaining a
schedule of hard physical work as a younger person and always keeping
busy; and

WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, John Amoriell has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John Amoriell upon the occasion of celebrating his 108th
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Amoriell.
