MOURNING the death of Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend and recognize those esteemed individuals within the medical
community for their extraordinary and sustained contributions to the
progress of medicine and the improvement of life; and

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus, noting
the significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus, of Bedford Hills, New York, died on
Saturday, February 1, 2020, at the age of 92; and

WHEREAS, Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Ronald J. Hagadus
graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, The Pennsylvania College
of Optometry, and received his Doctor of Medicine from the Universidad
Autonoma de Mexico in Mexico City; and

WHEREAS, Ronald J. Hagadus proudly served his country in World War
II in Korea as a Staff Sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his Internship at Stamford Hospital
in Connecticut and his Residency in Westchester Medical Center, Dr.
Ronald J. Hagadus was an ophthalmologist at the New York Eye and Ear
Infirmary, Westchester Medical Center, and held the esteemed position of
an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at the New York Medical
College; and

WHEREAS, Appointed Professor Emeritus, an honorary title for
professors who want to stay active in scholarship following retirement,
Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus was also the recipient of the President's Award
for Outstanding Teaching and Dedicated Service from the New York Eye and
Ear Infirmary; and

WHEREAS, This extraordinary man had ophthalmology practices in
Bedford Hills, New York and New Rochelle, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus' commitment to excellence, spirit and
humanity were displayed in his service as an Honorary Member of the
Society of Ophthalmology of Poland, a recognition he received for his
outstanding contributions to the Advancement of Polish Children with
Glaucoma; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus humbly
served on the Town of Bedford Recreation and Parks Advisory Board, as
well as the Town of Bedford Veterans Advisory Committee; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus, was a former trustee of the
Kosciuszko Foundation of New York, a foundation dedicated to promoting
educational and cultural exchanges between the United States and Poland,

and to increase American understanding of Polish culture and history;
and

WHEREAS, An avid tennis player, Dr. Ronald Hagadus played and won
many local tournaments; he and his wife traveled extensively to many
countries and continents, and drove cross-country from New York to
California nearly 20 times; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his beloved son, James, and his adored wife,
Maria; Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus is survived by his loving daughters,
Francesca (William) and Claudia (Clyde); his four grandchildren, Julia
(Christopher), William, Timothy, and Thomas; and one great-grandson,
Patric; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Dr. Ronald J. Hagadus.
