BY: Senator TEDISCO

COMMENDING the medical professionals, first
responders and volunteers for their heroism during
the unprecedented time of crisis created by the
Coronavirus Disease 2019

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the efforts of those real-life superheroes serving as clinicians,
emergency personnel and volunteers whose dedication and accomplishments
have been instrumental in uncertain times; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the doctors, nurses, physicians assistants, emergency medical
technicians, law enforcement, volunteers and the National Guard for
their work on the front lines leading the charge to solve the COVID-19
pandemic, and for protecting our communities throughout our State and
Nation; and

WHEREAS, The Coronavirus Disease 2019, a global pandemic which
originated in Wuhan, China, has created an unprecedented health crisis
that has caused significant economic risks and harm to the well-being of
the businesses, organizations and citizens in New York State; and

WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the
Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Homeland
Security, other Federal agencies, and State and local governments have
established guidelines to mitigate the potential spread of the virus;
and

WHEREAS, New York coronavirus cases make up almost half of the
nationwide total, and the State is racing to address the uncertainty
caused by that crisis while ensuring that people have access to critical
care and the essential items they need thanks to the sacrifices of our
medical professionals, first responders and volunteers; and

WHEREAS, From field hospitals in Central Park, makeshift hospitals
at the Jacob Javits Center and the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, along
with the USNS Comfort docked on Manhattan's West Side, medical
professionals, first responders and volunteers answer the call of duty
in any environment where patients are in need of compassionate care; and

WHEREAS, In one display of appreciation, which garnered national
attention, New Yorkers who were asked to remain indoors leaned out their
windows and flooded their balconies to applaud first responders, nurses,
doctors and other health care workers who are helping to fight the
City's coronavirus outbreak; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body cannot express sufficient gratitude
to those devoted individuals who recognize that the preservation of life
is a sacred responsibility and who make that responsibility their own by
serving as medical professionals, first responders and volunteers; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the medical professionals, first responders and volunteers for
their heroism during the unprecedented time of crisis created by the
Coronavirus Disease 2019; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
