MOURNING the death of Amelia Galiani, news
translator during World War II, avid golfer, and
pillar in her community

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Amelia Galiani, an extraordinary woman of
indomitable faith and dedication whose purposeful life will long serve
as a standard to which others might aspire; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Galiani, of Pelham Manor, New York, died in her home
of nearly 52 years on Friday, March 15, 2019, at the age of 102; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Galiani was born to the late Fortunato and Ernestina
Anzovino in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; she and her family moved to
Fordham, Bronx, New York, where she attended local schools; and

WHEREAS, After earning her degree in languages from Hunter College,
Amelia Galiani enjoyed an exciting career with CBS as a news translator
during World War II; and

WHEREAS, In October of 1944, Amelia Galiani married her husband
Joshua at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York; in June of 1950, she and
her husband moved to Pelham Manor, and together, they raised three
children; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Galiani was an active and treasured part of her
community; she was a member of The Manor Club, and for over six decades,
the Pelham Country Club where she enjoyed playing golf with her late
husband; and

WHEREAS, Amelia Galiani also served on the Rosary Altar Society of
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, and was a Lady of the Holy Sepulchre;

WHEREAS, Predeceased by her husband, Joshua Galiani MD and her
brother, Ernest Anzovino, Amelia Galiani is survived by her two sons,
Dr. Anthony "Tony" (Kathy) and Dr. Joshua (Meg); one daughter, Virginia
(John); 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many
friends who will long cherish her memory; and

WHEREAS, Through her boundless energy and profound words of wisdom,
Amelia Galiani's legacy of true grace and infinite selflessness and
kindness, will shine on through her family's vivid and happy memories;
her shining light and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love
and hope for all who were privileged to have known and loved such an
amazing and dynamic woman; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Amelia Galiani, news translator during World War II,
avid golfer, and pillar in her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Amelia Galiani.
