Senate Resolution No. 1725

HONORING Dr. George Dodds upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service
to Gouverneur Hospital

WHEREAS, Within every community there exists certain individuals who
have played an important role in helping the people and families of
Northern New York; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals within the medical field who
distinguish themselves through professional excellence and who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life of citizens of St.
Lawrence County and the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. George Dodds recently retired from his position as
Medical Director of Gouverneur Hospital, the esteemed position he held
for the past seven years; and

WHEREAS, Serving in this capacity since March of 2014, Dr. George
Dodds was responsible for overseeing the quality of medical care at the
facility; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his role as Medical Director, Dr. George Dodds
also served on the medical staff of Gouverneur Hospital and was an
internal medicine physician at the former E.J. Noble Hospital; and

WHEREAS, Dr. George Dodds has had a long, illustrious and successful
career in the medical field, serving as a hospitalist and part of the
teaching faculty at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, as associate
clinical faculty at Columbia Presbyterian Medical School, a hospitalist
at Moore Regional Hospital in North Carolina, clinical associate faculty
in the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill
and, in addition, practiced internal medicine and pediatrics in the
communities of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dr. George Dodds helped guide and inspire
future medical professionals as a mentor and supervisor for medical
students and resident physicians; and

WHEREAS, In addition to his medical career, Dr. George Dodds has
been an extremely active member of his community, namely via his
involvement with the Edwards Opera House Concert Series and the
Traditional Arts of Upstate New York (TAUNY) organization; and

WHEREAS, Dr. George Dodds is also a talented folk musician,
performing regularly with fiddler Don Woodcock and others to share his
gift of music with everyone; and

WHEREAS, As a leader in his profession, Dr. George Dodds has proven
himself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. George Dodds upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to Gouverneur Hospital; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. George Dodds.
