CONGRATULATING Sidney Lubow upon the occasion of
celebrating his 101st Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Sidney Lubow upon the occasion of his 101st Birthday; and

WHEREAS, Last year, the Town of North Hempstead issued a
Proclamation declaring January 16th as a special day of recognition for
Sidney Lubow's 100th birthday; one year later, the celebration continues
for this beloved, multi-talented centenarian, marking his 101st
birthday; and

WHEREAS, The eighth of nine children, Sidney Lubow grew up in
Brownsville, Brooklyn, where he enjoyed model making and architectural
landmarks; his artistic ability was evident from a young age, and his
pastel portraits of family and friends, as well as reproductions of
beloved artists' paintings are truly remarkable; and

WHEREAS, At the age of 20, Sidney Lubow enlisted in the United
States Army during World War II and proudly served as an officer in the
Medical Army Corps at Pearl Harbor until 1945; he continued his
commitment to his country in the Army Reserves until 1952; and

WHEREAS, As a hand letterer and commercial artist, Sidney Lubow was
the creative force at the window display company, Herbert Rose, Inc. in
New York City; throughout his illustrious career which traversed more
than three decades, he served as both Vice President and Art Director;
and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Sidney Lubow designed a stamp for the United
States Postal Service to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the U.S.
Customs Department; and

WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; if there is
a piano in the room you will most likely find Sidney Lubow playing,
humming, singing and sharing conversation all at once; and

WHEREAS, Sidney Lubow, with his zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of his family and friends; he and his wife of 74
years, Dorothy, are the proud parents of three children, and the loving
grandparents of six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and


WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sidney Lubow upon the occasion of celebrating his 101st
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sidney Lubow.
