CONGRATULATING the Mount Vernon High School Boys
Varsity Basketball Team upon the occasion of
capturing the NYSPHSAA Basketball Class AA
Championship on March 19, 2022
WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Mount Vernon High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team upon the occasion
of capturing the 2022 NYSPHSAA Basketball Class AA Championship; and
WHEREAS, To the praise and applause of their excited fans, the
number one ranked Knights defeated number two ranked Green Tech High
School in a decisive 55-45 victory to capture Mount Vernon's 12th boys
basketball title on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Cool Insuring Arena in
Glens Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate this momentous triumph, the Mount Vernon City
School District will hold a parade in the team's honor, beginning at the
Mount Vernon High School and ending at City Hall; and
WHEREAS, The championship also marks Head Coach Bob Cimmino's eighth
title and 576th career victory, tying him with a former Peekskill coach
for the most wins ever in Section 1 history; and
WHEREAS, Proudly donning the school's colors of maroon and gold,
family, friends, and the community at large loyally and enthusiastically
supported the Knights throughout their journey as they ended their
season with an impressive undefeated 24-0 overall record; and
WHEREAS, In a sport such as basketball, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Head Coach Bob Cimmino, and Assistant
Coaches Dwayne Murray, Garee Bryant, Patrick Theodule, and Anthony
Pavlacka have worked hard to hone the skills of this championship team,
teaching these outstanding athletes lessons which will prove invaluable
both on and off the court; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Bob Cimmino and all of the outstanding athletes
on the Mount Vernon High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team have
clearly utilized dedication, determination and teamwork in providing a
lasting contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of
their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the members of the Mount Vernon High School Boys Basketball
Team: Elijah Morris, Justin Robinson, Jasaiir Barnes, Tristian George,
Jayden Austin, Jaden Fearon, Brandon Sinclair, Miguel Nunez, Dylan
Colon, Jaylin Sampson, Chris Fitzgerald, Leon Simon, Demarly Taylor,
Tavien Tyler, Manny Barkor, and Omari Hart; Head Coach Bob Cimmino, and
Assistant Coaches Dwayne Murray, Garee Bryant, Patrick Theodule, and
Anthony Pavlacka upon the occasion of capturing the 2022 NYSPHSAA
Basketball Class AA Championship on March 19, 2022; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the members of the Mount Vernon High School Boys Varsity
Basketball Team; Varsity Head Coach Bob Cimmino; Assistant Coaches
Dwayne Murray, Garee Bryant, Patrick Theodule, and Anthony Pavlacka;
Strength Coach Danilio Hutchinson; JV Coach Bryan Browne; Freshmen Coach
Rich Suozzo, Modified Coach Leon Friday, and Team Manager Kendra Smith.
