HONORING William V. Zimmermann upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished
service to the City of New Rochelle, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William V. Zimmermann upon the occasion of his retirement after nearly
22 years of distinguished service to the City of New Rochelle; and

WHEREAS, William V. Zimmermann, a native of Oceanside, New York, was
appointed Commissioner of Parks and Recreation for the City of New
Rochelle in March of 2004, following his original appointment as
Director in July of 2000; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, William V. Zimmermann has supported
strong partnerships with the Rotary Club of New Rochelle and other
community organizations; and

WHEREAS, William V. Zimmermann previously held several public sector
managerial positions working 17 years for the Town of Mamaroneck,
serving as the Superintendent of Recreation; he also served for more
than five years as Superintendent of Parks and Recreation for the
Village of Irvington-On-Hudson, and for two years as an Assistant
Facilities Manager for the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County, New York;
and

WHEREAS, A resident of Tarrytown, New York, William V. Zimmermann
received his bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at
Cortland in 1976, preceded by an associate in applied science degree
from the State University of New York at Delhi Agricultural and
Technical College in 1973; and

WHEREAS, William V. Zimmermann is well versed in municipal parks and
recreation operations, having served as a faculty member of the National
Director's School accredited by the National Recreation and Parks
Association (NRPA) and North Carolina State University, and a
distinguished member of the American Academy for Parks and Recreation
Administration; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, he serves as a professional delegate to the
NRPA representing the Mid-Atlantic Regional Network and is the recipient
of the prestigious Michael B. Berman Special Fellow Citation Award; and

WHEREAS, Past Chair and Regent Board Member for North Carolina State
University's Supervisor's Management School, William V. Zimmermann's
commitments also include service on the NRPA Board of Trustees, the APRS
Board of Directors, Chairman of NRPA Mid-Atlantic Regional Planning
Council, Past-President of the Westchester Recreation and Park Society;
and


WHEREAS, He has also served as the Past-President of the New York
State Recreation and Park Society, from which he received the
association's highest award in April of 2006 for Distinguished Service;
and

WHEREAS, For more than two decades, William V. Zimmermann rendered
faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the City of New
Rochelle, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and

WHEREAS, As both Director and Commissioner of Parks and Recreation,
William V. Zimmermann served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and
was governed by a keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of
human problems in his official acts; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Mary who feels
privileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his many
achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William V. Zimmermann upon the occasion of his retirement after
nearly 22 years of distinguished service to the City of New Rochelle;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to William V. Zimmermann.
