HONORING Charles E. Sexton posthumously upon the
occasion of the renaming of North Ponds Park in
Webster, New York, in recognition of his remarkable
life

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Charles E.
Sexton posthumously upon the occasion of the renaming of North Ponds
Park in Webster, New York, in recognition of his remarkable life; and

WHEREAS, North Ponds Park, located at 750 Holt Road in Webster, New
York, will be renamed the Charles E. Sexton Memorial Park in honor of
the sustained and successful efforts of this beloved Recreation Director
and his indelible legacy; and

WHEREAS, Charles E. Sexton began his illustrious career as the first
Recreation Director in the Town of Webster in 1962; he served in that
esteemed role until 1996, retiring after 34 years of distinguished
public service; and

WHEREAS, A proud United States Army Veteran, Charles E. Sexton was
the first African American to hold the position of Recreation Director
in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Charles E. Sexton provided vital programs
to the residents of Webster, and was instrumental in the creation of the
Town's first summer youth camps as well as programs for senior citizens;
and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Charles E. Sexton served on numerous Boards of Directors, and
ushered at Holy Trinity Church for more than 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Charles E. Sexton died on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the age
of 89; predeceased by his wife, Deborah, and his daughter, Tanya, he is
survived by his sons, Adam (Michelle) and Jared; a grandson, Malcolm;
and two sisters, Maxine and Cheryl; as well as many nieces, nephews and
friends; and

WHEREAS, Charles E. Sexton was renowned as a forward thinking,
creative and proud community member; today's current recreation programs
are a testament to this extraordinary man and his vision for a community
recreation program; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Charles E. Sexton leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; his

insight and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and
hope to the countless lives he touched; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Charles E. Sexton posthumously upon the occasion of the renaming
of North Ponds Park in Webster, New York, in recognition of his
remarkable life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Charles E. Sexton.
