MOURNING the death of Charlotte P. Koons,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of her
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte P. Koons of Northport, New York, died on
Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at the age of 87; and

WHEREAS, Born Charlotte Spitzel on May 1, 1934, in Bronx, New York,
she later married her beloved husband, Chester Koons, with whom she
loved traveling, sailing and cycling; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte P. Koons distinguished herself in her profession
and by her sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of her community through her avid interests in politics and
civil liberties, education, and through her passionate support of the
arts; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte P. Koons was a dedicated and devoted teacher at
Norwood Avenue Elementary School in Northport, New York, for 43 years;
and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Charlotte P. Koons spent 17 years on the board of the
Northport Arts Coalition, coordinating programs at the Northport Public
Library; she also served as a volunteer at Hospice House in East
Northport, and was a founding member of Huntington N.O.W., CODEPINK
L.I., and Women for Peace; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte P. Koons' commitment to excellence, and her
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, A healer, mentor and enthusiastic supporter of the arts,
Charlotte P. Koons regularly attended the Cinema Arts Centre for
decades; she was truly engaged in every part of the community and leaves
behind a legacy of passion for art and love of life; and

WHEREAS, In 2018, Charlotte P. Koons was honored with a Lifetime
Achievement Award from the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) as a
co-founder of the Suffolk Chapter and in recognition of her NYCLU
Suffolk Chapter Board membership since 1963; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte P. Koons' infinite selflessness and benevolence
will shine on through her family's vivid and happy memories; her insight
and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to
the countless lives she touched; she will be deeply missed and truly
merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be
it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Charlotte P. Koons, and to express its deepest
condolences to her family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Charlotte P. Koons.
