COMMEMORATING the 125th Anniversary of the
Catherine Schuyler Chapter National Society
Daughters of the American Revolution
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this nation, and the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those patriotic and civic-minded organizations and community
members who dedicate their lives to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Catherine Schuyler Chapter
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to be celebrated
on Thursday, August 18, 2022; and
WHEREAS, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a non-profit,
non-political volunteer women's service organization dedicated to
promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing
America's future through better education for children; and
WHEREAS, DAR members volunteer millions of service hours annually in
their local communities, including supporting active duty military
personnel and assisting veteran patients, awarding thousands of dollars
in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and supporting
schools for underserved children; and
WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter National Society Daughters
of the American Revolution was organized in June of 1897, just seven
years after the formation of the National Society; Mary Adelia
Chamberlain Ward served as the first Regent, having been appointed by
State Regent Mary Isabella Forsythe; and
WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter was named for a woman who
was a true patriot; Catherine Schuyler was a devoted wife and mother who
lived to see the cause of independence established; and
WHEREAS, She was born in 1734, the daughter of Colonel John Van
Rensselaer; in 1755, she married Captain Phillip Schuyler, who later
became a Major General in the Revolution; and
WHEREAS, Of their 14 children, the eldest daughter, Angelica, would
become the mother of Phillip Church who "named our Allegany town for
her"; the second daughter, Elizabeth, married Alexander Hamilton; and
WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter works very hard to promote
the ideals of the National Daughters of the American Revolution:
education, historic preservation and patriotism; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Catherine Schuyler Chapter
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Catherine Schuyler Chapter National Society Daughters
of the American Revolution.
