HONORING Cheryl Fishbein upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the JCRC-NY Leadership
Award by the Jewish Community Relations Council of
New York
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Cheryl
Fishbein upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
JCRC-NY Leadership Award by the Jewish Community Relations Council of
New York to be celebrated at its Annual Spring Gala on Tuesday, June 14,
2022, at The Plaza, in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Fishbein is truly proud to be a part of this vital
organization which diligently works to build relationships within the
Jewish community and with New Yorkers of all backgrounds and faiths to
advance the values, interests, and security of the Jewish community and
to create a more interconnected New York for all; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Fishbein has served as the Chair of the Jewish
Council for Public affairs (JCPA), the Caring Commission, the Hurricane
Katrina Relief Committee, the Missions Committee, the Trauma Task Force
at UJA-Federation, Ambassadors Committee of the American Jewish Joint
Distribution Committee (JDC), Society Fellowship, and the Domestic
Council of the Washington, DC office of JFNA; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman was a participant on the Executive
Council of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations
and the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), and
served as President and Chair of the Edith and Carl Marks Jewish
Community House of Bensonhurst in Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Fishbein has also been a member of various Board of
Directors for organizations such as the Jewish Agency for Israel North
America (JAFINA), JCC Association of North America, American Jewish
Committee (AJC), Jewish Funders Network (JFN), World Jewish Congress
North America Division (WJC), Israel Trauma Coalition, National Yiddish
Theatre Folksbiene, JCC Krakow, and the Jewish Federation of North
America (JFNA), where she was Chair of the International Emergency
Relief Committee; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Cheryl Fishbein holds the title of President of
the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC) and serves on
the President's Advisory Board of UJA-Federation of NY; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Fishbein is also the Secretary of the Board of
Israel 21c, and is a member on the Advisory Boards of the Jan Karski
Foundation, Jewish Home and Hospital, and the International Board of
Governors of ANU, Museum of the Jewish People, and is a past President
of its American Friends; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Fishbein earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from
Barnard College, a law degree from New York University, and holds a
doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York
At Stony Brook; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her volunteer work, Cheryl Fishbein
maintains a private practice as a clinical psychologist and an attorney,
and has worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and as a
consultant to individuals looking to donate to charitable organizations;
and
WHEREAS, Above all, Cheryl Fishbein enjoys spending time with her
husband Philip Schatten, their four children, and seven grandchildren,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cheryl Fishbein upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the JCRC-NY Leadership Award by the Jewish Community Relations
Council of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cheryl Fishbein.
