CONGRATULATING Palma D. De Sarro upon the occasion
of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Palma D. De Sarro upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Palma D. De Sarro was born on March 20, 192,1 to Francesco
and Anna (Branch) Ureno; she was the oldest of five children; and
WHEREAS, In 1940, Palma D. De Sarro graduated from Thomas R. Proctor
High School; after graduation, she was offered a position with the
federal government in Washington, D.C. but decided to stay in the Utica
area where she worked at Griffiss Air Force Base during World War II;
and
WHEREAS, On July 20, 1946, Palma married World War II United States
Marine Corps. veteran Anthony De Sarro and together they were the proud
parents of four children; they were married for 44 wonderful years until
his passing in 1990; and
WHEREAS, After her children were grown, Palma D. De Sarro was
employed with Oneida County for almost 20 years until her retirement;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to her four children, today Palma D. De Sarro
is the loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 10
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong parishioner of St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed
Sacrament Parish, in Utica, Palma D. De Sarro was very active in her
church as well as many community clubs and organizations; and
WHEREAS, Palma D. De Sarro is an avid reader, and still loves to
play scrabble and card games; and
WHEREAS, With her zest for life, Palma D. De Sarro has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Palma D. De Sarro has enriched the lives of those around
her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the
quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years;
and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Palma D. De Sarro upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Palma D. De Sarro.
