MOURNING the death of Gerald Klein, former
Cortlandt Town Justice, family man and devoted
member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Gerald Klein, of Cortlandt, New York, who
died on Friday, November 13, 2020, at the age of 76; and

WHEREAS, Born on September 28, 1944, Gerald Klein spent many years
as a lawyer in private practice in Croton-on-Hudson, New York; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, having served on the bench for almost three
decades, Gerald Klein attempted to make his courtroom a place where he
could play a role in getting young criminal offenders back on the right
track; both an ally and advocate for people, he brought great compassion
and the belief in second chances to his courtroom; and

WHEREAS, During his illustrious career, Gerald Klein was well
respected by all his colleagues, fellow judges, and attorneys, as well
as the general community; he will be remembered for presiding over the
court with distinction, fairness, integrity and honor; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Klein distinguished himself in his profession by his
sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his
community; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Klein's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, A long-time congregant at Temple Israel of Northern
Westchester, Gerald Klein enjoyed being a Croton Lion and volunteering
on many charitable committees; a board member of the Hudson Valley
Gateway Chamber of Commerce, he also served as chairman of the Cortlandt
Planning Board; and

WHEREAS, Gerald Klein is survived by his wife, Lee; and their three
children; as well as many family members, friends, and coworkers; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Gerald Klein leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; he truly merits the grateful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Gerald Klein, noting the significance of the loss of

a man whose altruistic spirit and civic dedication will be greatly
missed; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Gerald Klein.
