CONGRATULATING Mary Luhrs upon the occasion of her
retirement after 20 years of distinguished service
as to the Shoreham-Wading River Central School
District
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend outstanding individuals whose enduring commitment and dedication
significantly enhance the quality of education in their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Mary Luhrs upon the occasion of her retirement after 20
years of distinguished service to the Shoreham-Wading River Central
School District, which was celebrated on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at the
monthly Board of Education meeting; and
WHEREAS, Mary Luhrs began her long and distinguished career as
Executive Assistant to the Superintendent of Schools at Shoreham-Wading
River Central School District in 2001; throughout her tenure, she served
with six superintendents, and was only the second executive assistant to
hold this position in the district's history; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to keeping each and every student safe, Mary
Luhrs was always eager to assist her colleagues, became involved in
volunteer groups, and oversaw production and proofreading of
correspondence, calendars and newsletters; during the COVID-19 pandemic,
she took on the role of reporting data to the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Mary Luhrs and her husband, Rich, relocated to
South Carolina, and in her much deserved retirement, she looks forward
to relaxing, listening to her favorite Elton John songs, and studying
American History; and
WHEREAS, For the past 20 years, Mary Luhrs rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Shoreham-Wading River Central
School District; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as Executive Assistant to Superintendent of
Schools, Mary Luhrs served with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, In her official acts, Mary Luhrs was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Shoreham-Wading River Central
School District, Mary Luhrs earned the admiration, esteem and affection
of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Mary Luhrs has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District, as well as on the
community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for
her impressive dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mary Luhrs upon the occasion of her retirement after 20
years of distinguished service to the Shoreham-Wading River Central
School District, and to wish her well in all her future endeavors; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mary Luhrs.
