CONGRATULATING Evelyn Mary Washburn upon the
occasion of celebrating her 105th Birthday on April
15, 2021
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
Evelyn Mary Washburn of St. Lawrence County upon the occasion of
celebrating her 105th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Hailesboro, Evelyn Mary Washburn, who is
known by friends and family as "Mary" or "Aunt Mary" was born in
Gouverneur, New York, on April 15, 1916; and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Mary Washburn is a 1953 graduate of Gouverneur High
School; she also attended St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York; New
York University, New York City; and Simmons University, Boston,
Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, A veteran, Evelyn Mary Washburn served her country as a
nurse in the United States Navy during WWII, and was stationed at Camp
Perry, Williamsburg, Virginia; her orders were to leave for the war zone
as a nurse with the Seabees, however the war ended before she departed;
and
WHEREAS, Evelyn Mary Washburn's career also included time working
for the New York State Department of Health, and the Jefferson
Rehabilitation Center in Watertown; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Evelyn Mary Washburn has had many
passions and hobbies, including music, golf, bowling and involvement
with the American Legion; and
WHEREAS, Family has always been a cornerstone of Evelyn Mary
Washburn's life, as she is beloved by many family members and in turn,
takes great pride in her loved ones, their accomplishments and the bond
they all share; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Evelyn Mary Washburn upon the occasion of celebrating her
105th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Evelyn Mary Washburn.
