CONGRATULATING Dr. Farhana Huda Islam upon the
occasion of being inducted into the 28th Annual May
W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of
North Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance
of Women's History Month

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within this great Empire State
who have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Dr. Farhana Huda Islam upon the occasion of being inducted
into the 28th Annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town
of North Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of Women's
History Month; and

WHEREAS, Since 1994, the Town of North Hempstead has honored women
who have made a contribution to their community, or have accomplished a
significant achievement through public or private efforts; Dr. Farhana
Huda Islam is one such woman; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Farhana Huda Islam is the Digital Strategist and
Creative Director of Muslims for Progress; through this grassroots
organization, she has been able to increase civic involvement in local
elections from school boards to various levels of government, and has
focused her efforts on increasing voter engagement of historically
marginalized communities which has given a voice to the often unheard;
and

WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has played an integral role in the
approval of school closures on Eid Holidays for the Sewanhaka Central
High School District; as a result of her leadership, four elementary
schools in NHP-GCP district now plan to not only adopt Eid Holidays, but
Chinese Lunar New Year and Diwali as well, and was instrumental in
forming a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee consisting of parent
and staff across school districts in North Hempstead; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Farhana Huda Islam also serves as chair of the Long
Island Progressive Coalition, volunteers her time and energy to NY
Renews, and mentors young aspiring chefs and home cooks through private
cooking classes and lessons from her cooking series "BinysKitchen"; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Farhana Huda Islam upon the occasion of being inducted
into the 28th Annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town

of North Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of Women's
History Month; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Farhana Huda Islam.
