CONGRATULATING Diane Harragan upon the occasion of
being inducted into the 28th Annual May W. Newburger
Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of North
Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of
Women's History Month

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within this great Empire State
who have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Diane Harragan upon the occasion of being inducted into the
28th Annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of North
Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of Women's History Month;
and

WHEREAS, Since 1994, the Town of North Hempstead has honored women
who have made a contribution to their community, or have accomplished a
significant achievement through public or private efforts; Diane
Harragan is one such woman; and

WHEREAS, After earning her engineering degree, Diane Harragan and
her husband, Ed, moved to Manhasset, Long Island, in 1964; shortly
thereafter, she became an active part of her community and has devoted
her life to making it a better place to live, work and play; and

WHEREAS, Diane Harragan has volunteered her time and energy to
numerous organizations including the Plandome Women's Club, Manhasset
School Community Association, the Girl Scouts, the Congregational
Church, and the Manhasset School System, as well Kiwanis International
of Manhasset-Port Washington, where she served as its first female
president and received the Outstanding Service Award for her tireless
efforts; and

WHEREAS, Diane Harragan changed careers and moved into the real
estate field, becoming actively involved with the Manhasset Chamber of
Commerce, especially its Adopt A Pole program; once again her
superlative work was recognized when she was named the Business Women of
the Year by the Nassau County Commerce of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Diane Harragan upon the occasion of being inducted into the
28th Annual May W. Newburger Women's Roll of Honor by the Town of North
Hempstead, in conjunction with the observance of Women's History Month;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Diane Harragan.
