CELEBRATING the life and accomplishments of Edward
V. Green, distinguished citizen and devoted member
of his community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Edward V. Green of Binghamton, New York, died on Saturday,
January 15, 2022, at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, Edward V. Green distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, In the 1970s, Edward started Edward V. Green Enterprises;
this successful business brought top name entertainment to the Broome
County Arena and venues across the Northeastern United States, some of
which included the Beach Boys, Roberta Flack and Barry Manilow; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, Governor Hugh Carey named Edward V. Green the
Director of Entertainment for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake
Placid, New York; this was a first for the Olympics, which ever since
has provided top name performers to entertain the athletes during the
Games; and
WHEREAS, Edward V. Green's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; he will be remembered for his many acts
of kindness and generosity, and his commitment to volunteering; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father and best friend, Robert J. Green,
Sr.; his mother, Josephine; and four siblings, Edward V. Green is
survived by his loving and devoted wife, Teresa (Terry) Cortese-Green;
sister-in-law, Jean; nephews, Scott (Amy), Christopher (Jennifer), and
Craig; and nieces, Emily (Matt) and Island; as well as great nieces and
nephews; furthermore, he is survived by his Shea family cousins; his
wife's family, Corinne and Gene Purtell and the Colavito's; his favorite
"sister-in-law," Rose Papa; and many wonderful friends and neighbors;
and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Edward V. Green leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; he will be deeply missed and truly merits the
grateful tribute of this Legislative Body now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and accomplishments of Edward V. Green, and to
express its deepest condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Edward V. Green.
