PAYING tribute to the life and valiant service of
Firefighter Robert J. Spatta
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
a courageous firefighter who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family, Westchester County and the Croton Fire
Department; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, Robert J. Spatta
died on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at the age of 76; and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Spatta, affectionately known to many as Bobby,
was born to John and Clara Spatta on September 2, 1944, in Yonkers, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Spatta proudly served his country as a member of
the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War; on November 13,
1971, he married the former Virginia Cerrato, and together, they raised
three children; and
WHEREAS, For 35 years, Robert J. Spatta was a valuable employee for
the Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities; and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Spatta was also a well-respected and dedicated
firefighter; he was a life active member of the Croton Fire Department,
member of the Ossining Volunteer Fire Department, honorary member of the
Mohegan Fire District, and honorary ex-chief of Washington Engine
Company No. 2; and
WHEREAS, When he was not working or busy at the firehouse, Robert J.
Spatta truly loved spending time with his cherished family, especially
his grandchildren, and was a member of the Lakers Social and Athletic
Club of Yonkers; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents and his brother Warren, Robert
J. Spatta is survived by his wife, Virginia; one daughter, Kristie
(Doug); two sons, Dan (Rina) and John (Cynthia); nine grandchildren,
Lanie, Vinny, Dan, Dominic, Antonio, Sebastian, Salvatore, Sergio and
Stella; and two sisters, Virginia Pecora and Karen Karam, as well as a
legion of fellow firefighters who will long cherish his memory; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his meritorious life, Robert J. Spatta touched
many through his kindness and commitment to service, and, as we recall
the loss of this great man, we memorialize his remarkable life and the
enormous impact he had on everyone with whom he came in contact; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of a
courageous firefighter who dedicated his purposeful life and career in
faithful service to his family and community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
pay tribute to the life and valiant service of Firefighter Robert J.
Spatta; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Firefighter Robert J. Spatta.
