Senate Resolution No. 1542

COMMENDING former Senator Terrence P. Murphy for
his illustrious service as a dedicated political
leader and strong advocate for the people of the
State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those individuals of distinguished purpose whose lives have been
committed to public service and the pursuit of excellence in the conduct
of the legislative process in this noble Empire State; Terrence P.
Murphy is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend former Senator Terrence P. Murphy for his illustrious service as
a dedicated political leader and strong advocate for the people of the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Yorktown Town Board from 2010 to 2015,
Terrence P. Murphy was appointed to the Statewide Task Force to combat
the Heroin and Prescription Opioid Crisis; and
WHEREAS, Senator Terrence P. Murphy was elected in 2014 to represent
the Dutchess, Putnam and Westchester County residents of the 40th Senate
District, where he served with honor and distinction from 2015 until
2018; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Senator Terrence P. Murphy authored 46
pieces of legislation which passed in both the Senate and the Assembly,
and secured $1.2 million for Stuart's Farm, the largest working farm in
his district; and
WHEREAS, He continued the fight in the Senate against opioids and
heroin as the co-Chair of the Joint Task Force on Heroin & Opioid
Addiction; and
WHEREAS, Senator Terrence P. Murphy was named to the New York Farm
Bureau's Circle of Friends for three consecutive years from 2015 to
2017, and received the 2017 Humane Legislator of the Year Award from the
Humane Society of the United States; he was also the recipient of the
2017 Man of the Year Award by the Supreme Court Officers Association;
and
WHEREAS, Terrence P. Murphy resides in in Jefferson Valley, New
York, with his wife, Caroline, and together they are the proud parents
of three children; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to reflect upon
those outstanding individuals who have made everlasting contributions on
behalf of their fellow man and have truly left their mark on this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and applaud the many accomplishments of former Senator
Terrence P. Murphy, and to wish him well in all his future endeavors;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to former New York State Senator Terrence P. Murphy.
