COMMEMORATING the 80th Anniversary of the Brooklyn
Terminal Market
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those businesses which substantially contribute to the
economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Terminal Market; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated by the late Mayor Fiorella LaGuardia, the
Brooklyn Terminal Market opened for business in 1942; and
WHEREAS, Located on Foster Avenue between East 83rd and East 87th
streets, the market has earned a fabulous reputation for offering
excellent quality at great prices; after eight decades of business, it
has truly become a Canarsie landmark; and
WHEREAS, Today, residents and visitors alike continue to come to the
Brooklyn Terminal Market to discover the wonderful array of products
available from more than 33 individual vendors while experiencing the
hustle and bustle of this lively market where the fragrance of exotic
flowers and plants mingle with the scent of fresh fruit and vegetables,
both domestic and imported; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, there is an enormous selection of grocery
items and an extensive assortment of Caribbean and West Indian products,
spices from all over the world, wine grapes, beer, soda, dairy products
and all types of paper goods; and
WHEREAS, Additionally, before the holidays, the Brooklyn Terminal
Market is bursting with every seasonable item imaginable from Halloween
decorations and pumpkins, to Christmas trees, wreaths and ornaments, to
Easter baskets and bunnies, to Mother's Day planters and bouquets; and
WHEREAS, Appreciating a long and distinguished tradition of
dedication to the needs of its visitors, the Brooklyn Terminal Market
continues to offer personalized service, a passion for quality and a
connection to both the history and the culture of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Brooklyn Terminal Market is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its President, Charles Ciraolo, and its
extraordinary vendors, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Brooklyn
Terminal Market; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Brooklyn Terminal Market; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Charles Ciraolo, President of the Brooklyn Terminal
Market.
