HONORING Trooper Shannon J. Saunders upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York
State Police

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers who would devote themselves to public
service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the
care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Trooper Shannon J. Saunders upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York
State Police to be celebrated at the 46th Annual Awards Day Ceremony on
Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at the State Police Academy, Albany, New York;
and

WHEREAS, On December 6, 2020, Trooper Shannon J. Saunders responded
to a report of a suicidal male in possession of a shotgun at a residence
on Rabideau Street in the Town of Schuyler Falls, New York; and

WHEREAS, Upon his arrival on the scene, Trooper Shannon J.
Saunders, without hesitation or regard for his own safety, was able to
de-escalate the situation and prevent the man from taking his own life;
and

WHEREAS, Trooper Shannon J. Saunders' quick thinking and decisive
actions under extreme stress and in the face of life-threatening danger
reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the finest
traditions of the New York State Police; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Peru, New York, Trooper Shannon J. Saunders
joined the New York State Police on April 23, 2012; today, he is
stationed with Troop B at the Valcour State Police Station; and

WHEREAS, Through his heroic actions, Trooper Shannon J. Saunders
demonstrated his character and compassion for the welfare of others,
personifying the collective concern of public servants across the
community of the State of New York who respond when others are in need
of help; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Trooper Shannon J. Saunders upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Superintendent's Commendation Award by the New York
State Police; and be it further


RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to New York State Trooper Shannon J. Saunders.
