Senate Resolution No. 338

HONORING Peter Allen upon the occasion of being
named the 2021 Veteran of the Year by the Fulton
Veterans' Council
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peacetime, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Peter Allen
upon the occasion of being named the 2021 Veteran of the Year by the
Fulton Veterans' Council; and
WHEREAS, Peter Allen served his country in the United States Army as
a non-commissioned officer at West Point Military Academy; and
WHEREAS, During his time of service, Peter Allen oversaw security
for several high-profile events, including visits from President Ronald
Reagan and the return home of 52 hostages during the Iranian revolution;
and
WHEREAS, In his post-service life, Peter Allen has worked tirelessly
to support his fellow veterans and active duty troops; in 2006, he
founded the not-for-profit "Thank a Service Member," a charitable
organization dedicated to educating the public and showing gratitude for
all who serve our nation; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Peter Allen helped to establish the "National
Grid Veterans Employee Resource Group," an initiative which works to
expand housing and job opportunities for veterans which, in turn, helps
to improve their quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Peter Allen is a shining example of the impact a person can
have when they selflessly serve their county and then go on to serve
their community; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peter Allen upon the occasion of being named the 2021 Veteran of
the Year by the Fulton Veterans' Council; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Peter Allen.
