Senate Resolution No. 384

MOURNING the death of Sergeant Ryan G. Mason,
decorated United States Army veteran, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow that this Legislative Body,
representing the people of the State of New York, is moved this day to
pay tribute to an eminent gentleman of indomitable faith and dedication
whose military service and countless accomplishments will forever stand
as a paradigm and inspiration for others; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Ryan G. Mason, who grew up in Carthage, New York,
died on Thursday, January 28, 2021, in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 36;
and

WHEREAS, Upon completing Augustinian Academy and Carthage Central,
17-year-old Ryan G. Mason proudly became a member of the United States
Army in 2001 to serve his country in the wake of the unspeakable
terrorist attacks of 9/11; he was deployed with his Patriot Missile Unit
A 2/43 out of Fort Bliss, Texas, to Iraq; and

WHEREAS, He later re-enlisted and served a tour of duty in the
Republic of Korea; while in the military, Sergeant Ryan G. Mason quickly
rose through the ranks and became a decorated soldier; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Sergeant Ryan G. Mason demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of this State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, In 2006, Sergeant Ryan G. Mason married the love of his
life, Claudia; together, they were the proud parents of two beautiful
daughters, Mia and Sophia; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Ryan G. Mason left the military in 2009 and found
his civilian path in cyber security; he obtained his bachelor's degree
from the University of Phoenix in Business Administration and Cyber
Security; and

WHEREAS, He obtained the highest security clearance, serving as Head
of his department, briefing both Generals and Colonels on a daily basis;
and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Ryan G. Mason's drive, patriotism and leadership
enabled him to receive many military awards of recognition as well as
several professional certifications within the cyber security industry;
and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his father, Larry M. Mason; maternal
grandmother, Rose Cartin (Britton); and paternal grandmother, Elizabeth
Cole, Sergeant Ryan G. Mason is survived by his wife, Claudia; his two
daughters, Mia and Sophia; his mother, Maureen Mason-Ashcraft (Stan);
sister, Alicia Mason Crowley (Jeff); nephews, Joshua, Noah, and Brennan;
brother, Kyle Mason; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as

many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several more nieces and
nephews; and

WHEREAS, The North Country, this great Empire State and this proud
Nation will never forget the contributions and sacrifices of Sergeant
Ryan G. Mason, a devoted hero and selfless veteran who served his
country as a member of its Armed Forces; his memory will remain in the
hearts of all those who had the honor of knowing him; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Sergeant Ryan G. Mason, and to express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Sergeant Ryan G. Mason.
