COMMENDING Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, New
York, upon the occasion of celebrating its 75th

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality
of life of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by
the availability of exceptional recreational facilities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, New York, upon the occasion of
its 75th Anniversary which was celebrated on Saturday, March 13, 2021,
with a variety of family friendly, COVID-safe activities; and

WHEREAS, Owned and managed by Cyndy Sisto and Nick Mir, Snow Ridge
Ski Resort is a small ski area located at 4173 West Road in Turin, New
York, in the nearby Tug Hill region on the eastern end of Lake Ontario;
the ski area's loyal fans come for the inexpensive tickets, night
skiing, and the exceptional kids' programs; they stay for the fluffy,
powdery, abundant snow; and

WHEREAS, The Williams brothers, Perry and Lawton, and their wives,
Ruth and Emily, founded Snow Ridge Ski Resort in 1945; when it first
opened, there were two rope tows, a small chalet with a cafeteria, a
first aid room and ski shop; as the years progressed the Williams
families hired European ski instructors, built a chalet with a capacity
for more than 400 people, cut more ski trails, and built an additional
chalet; and

WHEREAS, The resort's popularity grew quickly, its seven ski tows
drew crowds of over 2,000 people on weekends, and in 1957, 3,000 skiers
enjoyed the New Year's weekend festivities at Snow Ridge; by 1958, Snow
Ridge had become the largest privately-owned area in New York State, and
a couple of years later, its snow school was the largest in New York
State; and

WHEREAS, Snow Ridge Ski Resort also installed the first ski chapel
and Poma lift in the United States and implemented many important safety
protocols which were adopted nationally and internationally; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its storied history, Snow Ridge Ski Resort has
only changed hands a few times, and is currently owned by Nick Mir and
his mother Cyndy Sisto who purchased it in 2015; and

WHEREAS, During the last six years, Nick Mir and Cyndy Sisto have
made numerous renovations and upgrades such as a magic carpet lift to
the learning center, a snow tubing park, and Tavern230 patio with an
outdoor fire pit; and

WHEREAS, Future plans include a mountain bike park, expansion of the
campgrounds, and improvements to the Little Mountain area; and

WHEREAS, Many notable events have occurred at Snow Ridge over the
years; the Korean Olympic ski team trained there for the 1980 Olympics,
the Oneida Silversmith collegiate race was held every year beginning in
1955, the soldiers of Fort Drum's 10th Mountain division and several
notable skiers trained there, and for a time, the Special Olympics were
held there; and

WHEREAS, The success of Snow Ridge Ski Resort over the years is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its ownership and staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this institution and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges the success of the Snow Ridge Ski Resort and recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, fully confident that it
will continue to enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus
far; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, New York, upon the occasion of
celebrating its 75th Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Cyndy Sisto and Nick Mir, co-owners, Snow Ridge Ski
