Senate Resolution No. 612

COMMEMORATING the celebration of the International
Day of Peace on September 21, 2021 and the display
of The Peace Flag Project at the United Nations on
the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2021
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize days
that bring awareness to the universal goal of peace and harmony; and
WHEREAS, The International Day of Peace was first recognized in 1981
as a way to foster a culture of peace and bring international focus to
issues impacting global harmony; and
WHEREAS, Peace Activism launched The Peace Flag Project in September
of 2020, to engage the community on the topic of Peace, Unity and
Harmony, both social and environmental; and
WHEREAS, The Peace Flag Project joins individuals from around the
world who wish to reflect upon humanity through art in all forms; and
WHEREAS, The Peace Flag connects 193 countries in common goals of
attaining peace, justice, and strong institutions; and
WHEREAS, The Peace Flag will be displayed annually at the United
Nations on September 21st, the International Day of Peace, and includes
contributions from individuals from the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Artistic activism fosters community and provides a
mechanism for people to utilize their creativity and personal
experiences to effect change and impact the world in a positive way;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the celebration of the International Day of Peace on
September 21, 2021 and the display of The Peace Flag Project as a
valuable piece of artistic activism and contribution towards peace from
the residents of the State of New York, being conducted in honor of this
important day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Peace Flag Project.
