MOURNING the death of Bill Kurth, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable positive
impact on the lives of its residents; Bill Kurth was one such
individual; and

WHEREAS, It is with profound sorrow and deep regret that this
Legislative Body records the passing of Bill Kurth on Thursday, April 1,
2021, noting the significance of his purposeful life and
accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Bill Kurth was a vital member of the Chefs for Clearwater, an
organization dedicated to the celebration of the bounty of the Hudson
Valley and the environmental progress the region has made through the
years; and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Bill Kurth, the organization
has remained true to its mission to build grassroots support for
protecting local watershed, with education programs that have reached
more than half a million people since 1969, and a music festival that
draws thousands annually; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Chefs for Clearwater played a key role in the
passage of the Clean Water Act and all proceeds continue to benefit
Hudson River Sloop Clearwater; and

WHEREAS, Bill Kurth proclaimed himself as "the world's oldest copy
editor", which does not do justice to the range of his creative skills;
a seasoned advertising industry executive, he generously gave of his
time and energies to abundantly benefit Chefs for Clearwater; and

WHEREAS, Not only could Bill Kurth write succinct, interesting and
ultimately compelling prose, he handled the range of creative needs that
the committee dreamed up, including postcards, flyers, posters, eblasts,
magazine ads, journals, menus, advertisements, brochures, websites,
event videos, photo montages, and more; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to this organization and the
community-at-large, Bill Kurth's ideas were imaginative and inspiring;
he poured himself into his work, in which he took great pride; the
Clearwater Idea, which he researched, crafted and gave his voice to,
initially aired at the June 2020 Virtual Revival; it is but one
testament to the virtuosity and cleverness of his extraordinary
communication skills; and

WHEREAS, Additionally Bill Kurth recently became involved with the
current Revival committee and helping with countless staff projects; and

WHEREAS, Bill Kurth's infinite selflessness and benevolence will
shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight and
strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and hope to the
countless lives he touched; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Bill Kurth leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all who were
privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will be
deeply missed and truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative
Body; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Bill Kurth, and express its deepest condolences to
his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Bill Kurth.
