COMMEMORATING the 40th Anniversary of NIA
Community Services Network

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those
illustrious organizations of the State of New York whose focus and
intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in their
communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of NIA Community Services Network; and

WHEREAS, A not-for-profit community service organization dedicated
to addressing issues that impact youth, families, and seniors, NIA
Community Services Network was founded on May 26, 1981, out of a desire
to preserve and renew the neighborhoods surrounding the St.
Rosalia-Regina Pacis Church in Brooklyn, New York, through neighborhood
revitalization projects and food distributions; and

WHEREAS, NIA Community Services Network is steadfastly committed to
its mission to strengthen and empower children, families, and
communities through after school programs, wellness checks, community
classes, family art activities, family literacy events and other vital
human services; and

WHEREAS, Throughout its distinguished history, which has traversed
four decades, NIA Community Services Network remains true to its mission
which is evidenced through its vital work that directly supports and
enriches the lives of countless individuals and families each and every
day; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, NIA has developed important partnerships and
programs which are designed to help improve the quality of life for all
youth, families, and seniors; and

WHEREAS, Each year, this extraordinary organization serves over
10,000 children and their families in dozens of neighborhoods across New
York City, through after school programs, two Beacon Community Centers,
summer day camps, cultural arts programming, youth and family counseling
services, parent education workshops, community assistance and events
and referral services; and

WHEREAS, Additionally, the NIA serves thousands of senior citizens
through its senior picnics, senior proms, health and nutrition
initiatives, and support programs; and

WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, NIA Community Services
Network assisted countless community members in need through free
assistance with healthcare, SNAP, senior support, unemployment, Meals on
Wheels, price gouging, Home Health Aides, and personal health, as well
as after school programs to help supplement for lost hours of learning
and provide social-emotional support to students; and

WHEREAS, The success of NIA Community Services Network is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff and volunteers, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to NIA Community Services
Network; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
extend congratulations and just tribute to NIA Community Services
Network, commemorating its 40th Anniversary of service and care to its
community and throughout New York City; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to NIA Community Services Network.
