Assembly Resolution No. 440

CELEBRATING the life and accomplishments of Alfred
S. Quashie, distinguished citizen and devoted member
of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and this
great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Alfred Sebastian Quashie of Brooklyn, New York, died on
Saturday, May 29, 2021, at the age of 88; and

WHEREAS, Alfred S. Quashie was an active community resident since
the early 1980s when he purchased his home on the corner of Troy Avenue
and Farragut Road; he took pride of the beauty of his three-story home
and loved the sense of community he shared with his neighbors; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, Alfred S. Quashie served on the Troy Avenue
Block Association in the role of Treasurer for many years, and was one
of the night patrol walkers for the block; and

WHEREAS, In addition to serving his quaint community, Alfred S.
Quashie was an active voice and a member of Community Board 17; he was
instrumental in leading the charge to get the waste and paint companies
located on Troy Avenue on the cross end of the street to provide cleaner
air conditions; and

WHEREAS, The air quality for the residents of Troy Avenue was quite
toxic for several years, and Alfred S. Quashie was one of the many
voices who made sure the community voices were heard by the proper
authorities; and

WHEREAS, Alfred S. Quashie served his country as a member of the
United States Army from 1958-1960; and

WHEREAS, Alfred S. Quashie distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and

WHEREAS, A native from Carriacou, Grenada, Alfred S. Quashie was
born on August 21, 1932; trained in masonry, he worked as a Custom
Interior Decorator for over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Once he retired, Alfred S. Quashie became a regular member
of the Paedergat Park senior's 6:30 am exercise class; and

WHEREAS, Alfred S. Quashie loved to travel to Vegas with his
daughter, Vanessa, for both his birthday and Thanksgiving, which became
their ritual for the last 12 years; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Alfred S. Quashie leaves behind a legacy which will long

endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and accomplishments of Alfred S. Quashie, and to
express its most sincere condolences to his family; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Alfred S. Quashie.
