Senate Resolution No. 1026

CONGRATULATING Caleb Sweet upon the occasion of
capturing the 145-pound Division II wrestling title
at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on February
25, 2023

WHEREAS, Individual and team championships are highly sought after
in high school sports; this Legislative Body commends rare athletic
achievements and pays special recognition to those who pursue such
excellence and become examples for the youth of this great Empire State;
and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition helps to enhance both the moral and
physical development of young athletes, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the importance of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Caleb
Sweet upon the occasion of capturing the 145-pound Division II wrestling
title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on Saturday, February 25,
2023, at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York; and

WHEREAS, In front of a capacity crowd and a fan base of family,
friends and teammates, Caleb Sweet earned a 17-4 Major Decision over his
opponent from Fonda-Fultonville/Johnstown; and

WHEREAS, Coached by his father, Ken Sweet, Caleb Sweet is a standout
wrestler for the Finger Lakes Central and South Seneca Falcons; he ended
his season with a nearly perfect record of 43-1 and his high school
career with an incredible 198-33 record; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Caleb Sweet holds his school record for most
pins, takedowns and near falls during one season, his senior year; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional athlete is also a five-time Section V
Champion, was named the Section V Most Outstanding Wrestler twice, and
was the recipient of the Section V Sportsmanship Award; and

WHEREAS, After graduating, Caleb Sweet will wrestle for Division I
Binghamton University where he plans to major in Health Sciences; and

WHEREAS, In a sport such as wrestling, which demands athletic
prowess, speed and agility, Coach Ken Sweet worked hard to hone the
skills of this champion, teaching this outstanding athlete lessons which
will prove invaluable both on and off the mat; and

WHEREAS, Caleb Sweet has clearly utilized dedication, determination
and teamwork in providing a lasting contribution to the spirit of
excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Caleb Sweet upon the occasion of capturing the 145-pound
Division II wrestling title at the NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships on
February 25, 2023; and be it further


RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Caleb Sweet and Coach Ken Sweet.
