Senate Majority Announces Joint Hearing On The New York Health Act

(Albany, NY) The Senate Majority today announced that a joint public hearing on the New York Health Act (S.3577/A.5248) will be held on Tuesday, May 28. Bill sponsors, Senator Gustavo Rivera, Chair of the Senate’s Health Committee and Assemblymember Richard N. Gottfried, Chair of the Assembly’s Health Committee will lead this hearing, to ensure that a broad range of voices have the opportunity to provide input on the New York Health Act and its provisions.

“Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers are currently facing extreme financial distress due to the ever-rising costs of health care in our State,” Chair of the Senate’s Health Committee and Bill Sponsor, Senator Gustavo Rivera said. “This first-ever series of joint public hearings will ensure Assembly Member Gottfried and I open the floor to a broad range of voices, who in good faith, are willing to discuss the New York Health Act constructively and make recommendations about specific provisions. This is a step forward towards our ultimate goal -- to make healthcare a right and not a privilege in New York.”

“Our 2014-2015 Assembly hearings were very helpful in collecting stakeholder input, informing our bill drafting, and educating both the public about the bill and our Members about public concerns,” said Chair of the Assembly’s Health Committee and Bill Sponsor Richard N. Gottfried. “These hearings will help build on that record.”

The first hearing will be held in Albany on Tuesday, May 28th at 10:00 AM in the Legislative Office Building Hearing Room A, 2nd Floor.

Those who would like to offer public testimony at this public hearing or would like to solely attend it are requested to complete this form as soon as possible and send it to csherida@nysenate.gov.
