Highlights of June 2019

On Tuesday, June 25 at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, Senator Persaud held her third annual Power 19 Award Ceremony. She recognized 19 individuals who have made significant contributions in transforming their communities and institutions in and around Senate District 19.
  1. On May 31, longtime staffer Danil Singh celebrated his last day at the District Office with Senator Persaud and staff before moving on to another phase in his career.
  2. On May 31, Senator Persaud joined V.P. Goksel Guven and the Turkish Cultural Center of Brooklyn for Iftar Dinner.
  3. On June 1, Senator Persaud attended Community Board 16 and School District 23's 3rd Annual Youth and Empowerment Conference at I.S. 275. 
  4. On June 1, Senator Persaud attended the Elite Learners Robotics Showcase Block Party, featuring faculty, families and students from P.S. 273, P.S. 284, P.S. 306, P.S. 21 and J.H.S. 218. 
  5. On June 1, Senator Persaud dropped by Jamaica Bay Library's Summer Reading Block Party Blast Off. 
  6. On June 1, Senator Persaud held the first date of her "Conversations" series at New Hope Family Worship Center with Judge Carolyn Wade and Zephea Bushelle, director of social services at the church.
  7. On June 4, Senator Persaud welcomed youth from Senate District 19 in Albany. They represented the NYPD 63rd, 69th, 73rd, 75th and PSA2 Precincts, NYPD Transit District 33, the South Shore High School Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams (whom were the 2019 Champions), the Science and Medicine Middle School and the High School for Medical Professions. Also in attendance on the trip were NYPD coaches, teachers and PTA representatives as well as staffers Jennifer Horsford and Sandy Miller, accompanying the group.
  8. On June 7, Senator Persaud wore orange in support of National Gun Violence Awareness Day and working towards ending gun violence.
  9. On June 12, Senator Persaud attended P.S. 194's end term party. She congratulated Diane Broth, the school's United Federation of Teachers chapter leader, on her retirement and commended her on her dedication to education.

  11. On Monday, June 24, Senator Persaud attended and delivered remarks at Brooklyn Collegiate Preparatory High School's commencement. She congratulated the faculty, staff and, of course, the students of the graduating class of 2019, as well as their parents.
  12. On Monday, June 24, Senator Persaud also attended and delivered remarks at Spring Creek Community School's commencement. She congratulated the faculty, staff and, of course, the students of the graduating class of 2019, as well as their parents.
  13. On June 26, Senator Persaud attended the NYPD 63rd Precinct Community Council's monthly meeting. She presented P.O. Anthony Cosenza with a Certificate of Recognition acknowledging his award for Cop of the Month, June 2019, which he received for arresting an individual with a loaded firearm in Flatlands, Brooklyn.
